2026 Release Notes
New Features
Replace Event-driven Cache with On-Demand Delta Checking for Forecast Calculation
Speed up reserves updates and scenario planning with supercharged inventory update speeds in Val Nav 2026.
Data Views, Spreadsheet Import, and all other bulk tools now write changes across large inventories without recalculating each affected forecast along the way, significantly improving performance for each and every update. All analytical tools and entities, like groups, rollups, the map, and the Technical Comparison tab, now calculate forecast results on-demand, pulling the forecast calculation out of the assumption-update path entirely.
Engineers can update completion designs, schedules, Type Well assignments, and much more for thousands of wells in rapid succession, then calculate, compare, and reconcile production and economics only when the scenario is ready to evaluate.
New Properties
Refresh your inventory with the latest Type Well assumptions and assignments with Type Well Lookups! Val Nav 2026 introduces Type Well Lookups, allowing undeveloped well forecasts to be assigned to centrally managed Type Wells and inherit their current parameters on demand.
With a direct, evergreen connection to Type Wells, inventory wells now always reflect the organization's most current technical assumptions — with no overhead. Type Well Lookups make inventory governance and updates effortless: With direct parameter inheritance, reserves practitioners can have unwavering confidence that every well with the right Type Well assignment is forecasting on the right technical basis.
Assignments are now visible in the Data View, and paired with the dynamic hierarchy, that visibility turns QA into a clear, simple pass: Do the right wells have the right Type Wells? Large-scale inventory changes are now a single fast operation—reassign Type Wells in bulk through the Data View, Spreadsheet Import, or the Val Nav API.
Application Changes for Val Nav SaaS
Made application-level changes to enable and optimize our upcoming SaaS offering.
Forecast Logic + Basic Editor
Let Val Nav forecast your inventory by matching each well to the proper Type Well and scale it accordingly based on development and design decisions set on the Type Wells.
Building on Decisions introduced in Val Nav 2025, Forecasts can now be driven by Decisions, whether scaling only or matching too: Match on project-defined decisions like development area, formation, completion design. Scale inherited Type Well production on any numeric decision like completed interval. Set separate scaling relationships by product where oil, gas, and water respond differently.
Whether updating Reserves inventory, refreshing near-term outlook and current plan, or building a new scenario, all forecast changes are a breeze thanks to our connected inventory model that immediately reflects updates in development, design, and type well assumptions.
Enhancements
Turn over each planning and reserves cycle sooner. Project rollovers, project-wide updates, and database upgrades no longer require full recalculations of inventory in place. Whether you are moving forward the calculation date, extending the project technical life, or adjusting key global data, administrative updates are now lightning fast without the need to recalculate the project inventory. Database upgrades benefit from the same change so will proceed much faster, though still require inventory validation checks. The largest projects gain the most, cutting significant processing time from workflows that span the entire database and putting teams into productive work sooner at the start of every cycle.
Removed the "Forecast Start" and "Capital Start" columns from the Project Start Data View. Note that the "Project Start" column is unaffected.
Added support for per-product scaling in type well Lookup and Matching modes.
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue where the activity date would shift to the next day when set in the UI.
Added "Copy to Clipboard" options as an alternate to all "Open as Spreadsheet" buttons.
Fixed an issue where clicking the "Edit Cost Decks" button on the Economics|Op Costs tab would trigger an unhandled exception.
Fixed an issue in the Daily Forecast Plug-In where OpsEvents daily down times were not applied correctly.
Improved the performance of group calculation planning.
Fixed an issue where importing without object IDs would clear the Reserves Categories to Balance and Disclose fields in Jurisdictions.
Fixed an issue where a Microsoft SQL database deadlock could occur when running the Batch Manager.
Fixed an issue where no calculation would occur when WOR and O+W forecasts had a mid-month start date.
Added a warning when the input final rate does not equal the input initial rate for flat segments (Di = 0). Note that this is not a change in calculation behaviour, which honours the initial rate and ignores the final rate.
Fixed an issue where some declines with a "Cut-Off" date would fail to calculate after a database upgrade.
